A New Option for Myopia Control: Introducing MyDay® MiSight® 1 Day

More children than ever are becoming nearsighted (myopic), and unfortunately, myopia is much more than simply needing stronger glasses each year.

As myopia progresses, the eye grows longer than normal. Higher levels of myopia increase the lifetime risk of serious eye conditions such as retinal detachment, glaucoma, myopic macular degeneration, and early cataracts. This is why modern optometry focuses on myopia control, not just correcting blurry vision. Studies have shown that reducing eye growth and slowing myopia progression can help lower these long-term risks.

At Kalamalka Eye Care, we use the Topcon MYAH system to track changes in your child's prescription and, more importantly, measure axial length (the length of the eye). This allows us to monitor whether the eye is continuing to grow and objectively evaluate whether treatment is working.

What's New About MyDay® MiSight®?

CooperVision recently introduced MyDay® MiSight® 1 Day, the next generation of the highly successful MiSight® myopia control contact lens.

Parents often ask: "Does it work better than the original MiSight?"

The answer is that both lenses use the same proven ActivControl® technology to slow myopia progression. Clinical research on this technology has shown approximately a 50% reduction in myopia progression compared with regular contact lenses.

The biggest improvements with MyDay® MiSight® are:

  • Higher oxygen transmission to the eye
  • Silicone hydrogel material for improved breathability
  • Greater comfort for many children
  • Easier insertion and handling
  • Daily disposable convenience

CooperVision reports that MyDay® MiSight® provides up to four times the oxygen transmissibility of the original hydrogel MiSight® lens, while maintaining the same proven myopia-control design.

Why We Are Excited About It

Children are much more likely to wear their contact lenses consistently when they are comfortable. Since myopia control only works when treatment is worn regularly, comfort matters.

For many children, MyDay® MiSight® will offer the same evidence-based myopia management benefits as MiSight® 1 Day while providing an even better wearing experience.

Is My Child a Candidate?

Children who:

  • Are becoming more nearsighted each year
  • Have one or both parents who are myopic
  • Spend significant time on near work or screens
  • Show increasing axial eye growth

may benefit from a myopia control assessment.

At Kalamalka Eye Care, we use advanced technology and evidence-based treatments to help protect your child's vision now and into adulthood.
